Health Care Alert

Whether you favor private sector solutions, a government-run monopoly, or something in between; health care reform has become the number one topic of the day.  While our current system is working for approximately 180 million Americans, I appreciate that for some, the system is broken.  The solution, however, is not a government-run health care monopoly modeled after the health systems of the U.K., Canada, or France.  Even though President Obama has yet to show his plan to the American people (remember, all the current health care plans are being crafted by Congressional Democrats), he has made it clear in the past that he supports single-payer systems and wants more government control.

This is the opposite of what I want and what the majority of people in the Seventh Congressional District of Georgia want.  We want a system that empowers individual tax-paying Americans, that allows them to choose what is best for their families, that eliminates Uncle Sam from the doctor-patient relationship, and that respects the primary role of physicians in our health care system.  There are a number of Republican alternative measures that accomplish this goal, including one that is co-sponsored by three of Georgia’s doctors in the House of Representatives, H.R. 3400.

Below you will find a variety of items that will be useful in understanding the debate on Health Care Reform as well as when articulating your message to your friends and neighbors:

REPUBLICAN DOCTORS CAUCUS

The 13 member Republican Doctors Caucus is co-chaired by Representatives Tim Murphy (R-PA) and Phil Gingrey (R-GA).  The Caucus brings together Republican Members of the House of Representatives who were medical professionals before coming to Congress.  With medical expertise ranging from child psychology to orthopedic surgery to dentistry and more, the Caucus members are uniquely able to provide our Congressional colleagues with first-hand experience about the doctor-patient relationship and highlight the pitfalls of an expanding government health care bureaucracy.

Just as we stood with our patients in their health care fights, the members of the Republican Doctors Caucus are ready to meet the challenge of reforming our nation’s health care system head-on.  As physicians, we know how important it is to provide our patients with the best information possible so that they can make informed decisions.  That is why we are all honored to stand on the front lines of this health care debate and bring the truth about the House Democrats’ health care bill to light for all Americans.

I hope that you will visit the websites of the various Caucus members to learn more about what my colleagues and I are doing to help educate the public during this health care debate and what we’re doing to affect change in Washington, D.C.

HEALTH CARE UPDATE

10/28/09
Today Speaker Pelosi introduced a near 2000 page bill without the input of a single Republican Member of Congress.  To participate means to blindly follow her plan.  As we get into this bill we will find what has changed from the original plan, though with this bill having gotten larger than HR 3200, I doubt that it got any less intrusive.  To take a look at the initial summary click here, and check back frequently for updated information.
